Getting your profile right is vital. It creates a first impression in the minds of potential employers. Here are some simple tips to creating a great first impression.
- Be clear and concise. Don’t let your CV plant questions in the mind of the reader.
- Make sure all your dates are correct. Don’t guess if you’re not sure, check all your key education, employment, qualification, skills and experience dates carefully.
- Use examples to bring your experience and abilities to life.
- Be sure to detail your notable achievements alongside information on your key skills.
- Make sure it is all fact, not fiction. DO NOT OVERSELL YOURSELF.
- If a specific employer is already interviewing, ask your consultant what skills and experience secured interview invitations. Tailor your CV accordingly, but truthfully.
- Use plain English – no jargon or acronyms. Never assume a potential employer will understand what you mean.
- Check and double check for grammatical, punctuation or typing errors.
